Cisco Nexus Dashboard

There is an enormous transition underway in the way we shop, learn, bank, work and more. With multi-cloud businesses can make the decision of where to place their workloads in the data center on the edge or in the cloud. The Cisco Nexus dashboard provides a single agile automation platform to access data center network operational services and tools.

You can directly launch the Cisco multi-site orchestrator, Cisco nexus insights and cisco network assurance engine from a single interface and best of breed third party applications and tools in the future.

Nexus dashboard enables unified proactive operations across data center native and fabric agnostic solutions. The instantiation screen is a role based platform with an admin and user view where the admin role gives you access to the system resources to configure and onboard users and sites.

The Cisco Nexus dashboard can span distributed data centers to monitor multiple sites and view the overall system health. This is a software scale out, distributed architecture platform that’s built on kubernetes. The admin has the ability to configure and monitor all kubernetes resources such as nodes, pods and etc.

It can be used to configure cluster upgrade for availability and also for redundancy backup and restore. The admin can assign user roles, create personas, get full details around what the resource utilization for the different services that need to be on boarded.

Two available services, Cisco multi-site orchestrator and network assurance engine are on boarded. More services can be added from the Cisco DC app center which is a cloud-based app store.

From an operations perspective health of the global infrastructure is key. With Fabric visibility you can see all services are running and everything is healthy. From the summary review you see highlighted anomalies reported as critical which the dashboard has bubbled up the critical issues.

The nexus insights that’s needed to debug and troubleshoot the issue is automatically monitoring reports lists, all minor major and critical anomalies and All anomalies are categorized by type. The system maintains historical context. Also any deviations from that historical context gets flagged as anomalies.

Different anomalies are tied to a contract scope configuration at an application profile level or at a tenant level birth level. It helps you to understand why the system is impacted you can go back and change the configuration for scope to fix the problem. You may have hundreds of spines and leaves connected but you can filter it based on ones with issues.

The nexus dashboard is a single place to identify all kinds of anomalies at an app level at the network level and at the hypervisor level. The best troubleshooting is absolutely the one you do not have to do in summary the Cisco Nexus dashboard is your one-stop solution that leads simplification in the multi-cloud era.

Moreover, Previously the Day 2 operations (the monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting that keeps apps, services, and hosts up and running) suite of NAE, NIR and NIA ran separately on computing as ova in vSphere or on the Cisco APIC as an application.

The architecture never allowed for sharing data between the apps or correlations with errors and telemetry views of packet loss. With the roadmap moving, we had applications and a shared data lake for all applications to draw from and correlate between application errors, changes to the policy and deep flow telemetry, all visual as an epoch.

For all the applications to run and have sharable databases, the NEXUS Dashboard (ND) was created. The ND platform allows all the Cisco Day 2 apps and third party applications to run on a single appliance. Secondly, the ND has to be an expandable CPU and storage-intensive platform; today, the platform can scale with 3 master nodes and 4 worker nodes with the apps and their data residing on the ND cluster.

As ND matures, more ND servers can join the cluster, and they can be separated regionally if within TTL requirements to distribute applications and provide DR strategies.

Simplify data center operations with the intuitive and centralized management console, Cisco Nexus Dashboard, to streamline, rapidly assure, change, scale, and troubleshoot to operate the full multi-cloud environment. With Cisco Nexus Dashboard, you can:

Cisco Nexus Dashboard 2.1 New Features

Previously, In Nexus Dashboard 2.0 release, we had seen the following features:

Now, In Cisco Nexus Dashboard 2.1 release the below features have been added:

Cisco Nexus Dashboard Deployment

The NEXUS Dashboard platform is the hardware-based cluster form factor consisting of a minimum of 3 nodes expandable to 7 nodes. There is also a software-based NEXUS Dashboard that can run as ova on ESXi hosts. In a future version, a cloud-based NEXUS dashboard is available.

Both form factors are deployed by connecting the in band management network to the nodes. The first mode is by using the EPG/BD mode and directly connecting the Nexus Dashboard to the fabric to gather telemetry from the APICs and flows from the switches.

Cisco Nexus Dashboard License

About Cisco Nexus License we should say that Nexus Dashboard offers flexible options with a choice of three licensing tiers. It is offered as part of Cisco Data Center Networking (DCN) Advantage, Cisco DCN Premier tier licenses, and Cisco DCN Day 2 Ops Add-on License for customers.

The Data Center Networking Software Subscription suites bring customer flexibility when migrating to the software-defined, Cisco policy-driven management and control of Cisco ACI. Same subscription license is also supported with our Cisco NX-OS fabrics with DCNM.

Cisco offers three tiers of subscription-based software suites and a set of add-on licenses for Cisco Nexus 9000 Series Switches, Data Center Networking Essentials Subscription, Data Center Networking Advantage Subscription, Data Center Networking Premier Subscription and DCN Add-On Licenses.

Security, Storage, Day-2 Operations, and Nexus Data Broker (NDB) are available as add-on licenses in the Data Center Networking Software subscriptions.
