The NCS 4000 (Cisco Network Convergence System 4000) Series is a converged optical service platform enabling dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM), Optical Transport Network (OTN), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Carrier Ethernet, and Label Switch Router (LSR) or IP multiservice capabilities in to the network and provides massive scale through silicon and system design, while offering network efficiency and simplification led by innovations in usability, automation, service management, turn-up, and monitoring.
These series support packet switching includes IP transport, MPLS, LSR, and Carrier Ethernet, supporting 10, 40, and 100 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces with optional OTN (OTU-2, OTU-3, or OTU-4) encapsulation, OTN switching includes full optical channel data unit switching with various ports that supports SONET/SDH, Ethernet, and Channelized OTN, full DWDM integration with support for IP-over-DWDM features including the Cisco nLight Control Plane Protocol and Cisco CPAK® pluggable transceivers and innovative silicon and power management solutions reduce power draw and increase density.
Essentially, OTN enables robust transport services that leverage many of the pros of SONET/SDH such as resiliency and performance and monitoring, while adding enhanced multi-rate capabilities in support of packet traffic, plus the transparency required by DWDM networks.
The Cisco NCS 4000 24 port low-rate OTN line card supports up to Twenty-four 1 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces through SFP pluggable, Sixteen OC-48/STM-16/OTU-1 interfaces through SFP pluggable and Four 10 Gigabit Ethernet /OC-192/OTU-2 interfaces through SFP+ pluggable.
The NCS 4000 20x10G OTN line card supports up to Twenty 10 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces through SFP+ pluggable, Twenty OC-192/STM-64 interfaces through SFP+ pluggable and Twenty OTU-2 interfaces through SFP+ pluggable.
The Cisco NCS 4009 suits for DWDM-enabled OTN and Packet Transport for Aggregation and Metro networks and supports Up to 3.6Tbps capacity. It provides 2 route processors, 4 fabric cards, 9 line cards, 1 ECU, 2 power shelves (either DC or AC) and 1 fan tray per Chassis and has 15 RU (Rack-unit) form factor.
The Cisco NCS 4016 suits scalable, DWDM-enabled OTN and Packet Transport for Metro and Core networks and supports Up to 6.4Tbps capacity. It provides 2 route processors, 4 fabric cards, 16 line cards, 1 ECU, 2 power shelves (either DC or AC) and 2 fan tray per Chassis and has 24 RU (Rack-unit) form factor.
Cisco NCS 4000 license is provided by Cisco in hybrid ways. Customers can either use the traditional PAK licenses or Cisco NCS 4000 smart licenses to register all product instances on the Cisco smart software management website.
